Top 5 APIA Female Lawyers who are Impacting Current USA politics
by Jaeyeon Chung
APIAs have long been classified as minorities, and it becomes more evident when we talk of APIA "females" (Women in Exile, txt p325). Female Asian Americans can be seen as the minorities of the minorites, and the weak of the weak. As a female student, I felt the neccessity to recreate the gender role that is prevalent in our society, and the start could be from inspecting the current female AAs who have succeeded in their career. Their existence and the social power that they attained have a powerful force to draw attention from a male dominating society, and it also inspires many feminists and activists in Women's study. Moreover, they inpire the general women population who share the frustration as their identity as female of color (The Woman Warrior vs The Chinaman Pacific, txt 307) Specifically, it would be worthy to see how female APIAs have succeeded in the field of law and how they are impacting USA society as elite members in politics. Also this comes from my personal interest in the field of law who is interested in public welfare and justice.
[1] Rationale and Criteria
To make sure that my personal view is not biased, I conducted a broad online research in different kinds of websites, from private law firms, New York Times, Law Association and personal bloggings. After collecting data from various resources, I picked female lawyers who have also joined in Politics and publice policies, and of those who are not only focused on personal profit:
- Candidates are members of National association of Asian Pacific American attorneys (NAPABA)
- Candidates currently use their professionalism for public goods
- Past experiences of the candidates prove their active social involvement.
